Young people from West Gorton revealed a new look community centre in their neighbourhood, after working hard to give West Gorton’s Community Centre with a much needed facelift.
Supported by Groundwork in partnership with Guinness Northern County Housing Association, the group of fifteen undertook the 5 week project with Zap graffiti to design and paint their community centre’s shutters.
The group worked in teams to give the centre a cool overhaul with the aim of making their community centre stands out and easy to locate. They pooled ideas, learnt how to tackle design projects, planned and sprayed the design.
The group has also been involved with a diverse programme of activities funded by Guinness Northern County Housing Association.
Groundwork Project Officer, Rachel Ann Brookes has worked closely with the group to co-ordinate activities and trips for the 10 to 17 year olds.
Rachel Ann Brookes said: “The group aims to make positive changes in the West Gorton area. They have tackled lots of different projects, where they have worked with different organisations in the community. This graffiti project is just one way in which they’ve worked together to improve their community.”
