City Cooling Training essential for landscape architects and staff seeking to enhance their skills and knowledege about climate change action is now being run by Groundwork MSSTT. The interactive, practical training enables attendees to develop an understanding of some of the likely impacts of unavoidable climate change on urban areas.
The training covers different responses to Climate Change and the potential for green infrastructure development to address some of the likely adverse impacts of climate change.
The training can be adapted for your needs. For the one day training option, the morning focuses on the theoretical aspect of City Cooling, with presentations and discussions over the principles of Climate Change adaptation, the impacts of unavoidable climate change, and the role of Green Infrastructure in addressing these impacts. The afternoon is a more practical, scenario-based approach, exploring the ways in which climate change adaptation can be built into a range of project types, some of the issues and barriers facing incorporating features of this type, and some examples of where Green Infrastructure based Climate Change adaptation has been successfully built into projects.
City Cooling Training Topics include:
· Introduction to climate change adaptation
· Summarised findings of the Adaptation Strategies for Climate Change in the Urban Environment (ASCCUE) project, relating to the urban heat island and the impact of green infrastructure on urban temperatures
· Discussion of adaptive functionality of green infrastructure at the macro and micro levels
· Practical scenario sessions regarding implementing adaptive functionality in a Groundwork project
· Case studies of successful Green Infrastructure Adaptation implementation
