About us

Playing on a Groundwork project

Groundwork works with its partners to improve the quality of the local environment, the lives of local people and the success of local economies in areas in need of investment and support. Our work embraces urban regeneration, land reclamation, youth work, education, employment programmes, business support and community development work.

Groundwork has been operating in Manchester since 1994 and in Salford and Trafford since 1986. In 2003, the two Trusts merged to create Groundwork Manchester Salford and Trafford.

Groundwork Manchester Salford and Trafford is part of a federation of more than 50 Groundwork Trusts in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each Groundwork Trust is a registered charity and our board reflects the partnership between the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Groundwork’s purpose is to build sustainable communities in areas of need through joint environmental action. We deliver programmes of work that address three strategic priorities:

For people: creating opportunities for people to learn new skills and take local action

For places: creating better, safer and healthier neighbourhoods

For prosperity: helping businesses and individuals fulfil their potential

Groundwork has a unique role to play building on its experience of partnership working and innovation, linking strategic policy with local action - at its best generating real change and creating a new sense of purpose in local people.
